Pinterest is a visual social media platform, and it is all visual. This means, if you want to market using Pinterest, you need some hot graphics to make you look good!
For example, consider if you were redecorating your house 20 years ago. You might have clipped magazine ads and articles with interior design pieces and inspirational color swatches you liked, then pinned these clippings to a cork board.
Fast forward to the present, and we’re using Pinterest as our virtual cork board.
There are many ways to use Pinterest for business. People who are in the DIY, arts and crafts, fashion and foodie niches have a relatively easy time using Pinterest. After all, those niches are all visual based, and they are overflowing with images to pin on Pinterest.
The Challenges of Being In A Text Based Industry
However, for those in less visually-glamorous industries, like coaching, business blogging, or writing, Pinterest can prove to be a challenging platform to conquer.
Why? These industries are typically text based. Wordsmiths (like myself) usually prefer text, which can prove challenging when you’re trying to keep up with social media trends.
When it comes to social media, image is everything. How are the wordsmiths to compete?
How Can Authors Use Pinterest for Marketing
If you’re an author, you may have experienced the frustration of trying to use social media to market your books. What’s more, visual marketing is no easy feat for authors. During a conversation I had with The Author Chat’s Lynda Brown, we both realized that this topic – visual marketing for authors – warranted discussion.
As a result, we decided that we should talk about how authors can use Pinterest for marketing. During this interview, we discussed:
- Basic to-do’s all pinners must complete
- How and why you should verify your website
- My favorite tool to make Pinterest pinnables
- A content marketing strategy authors can use for pins
- How to use Amazon reviews on Pinterest
- The most important step to take after uploading your pin
- and more…
If you can’t use the BTR player, visit this link to listen to the interview replay. Then come back and tell me which tip you’re going to implement!
