Video Marketing: What’s Holding You Back?

What does video marketing mean to you? Are you looking beyond Youtube, with an express purpose of educating (or edutaining) your audience? Oftentimes, business owners are nervous about getting on camera. Whether it’s because “I need to lose another 10 pounds before I look good” or “I don’t know what to say”, many ‘preneurs miss out on a huge opportunity to reach their desired audience simply because they won’t do video.

Video Marketing: What’s Holding You Back?

If you really want to make videos without breaking out in hives, the best thing you can do is figure out what is triggering your shyness symptoms. Even people who think they’re not shy have some apprehension around making videos.

Whether you’re shy or simply procrastinating (you know who you are), you can identify the triggers and mitigate for them so that you know what to do to overcome them. Knowing what sets off your feelings, and analyzing your feelings, can help you learn to deal with it better because you’re expecting it.

Make a List of All the Things That Scare You About Making Videos

For example, let’s say you go through the process of making a video:

What part makes you nervous or makes you feel shy?

If you’re not sure, get on Facebook right now and do a short Facebook Live. Chances are hardly anyone will see it when you do it at the last minute. Don’t worry – you can delete it when you’re done. Find an old blog post and use it as your script. Talk about that topic for a few minutes.

Shoot for ten minutes, which is actually a very long video for video marketing purposes. But when you do a live video it’s better for it to be a little longer because it gives a chance for other people to show up. This experience will give you more opportunity to explore your feelings.

The point of doing this is to make a video and experience the technology for yourself so that you can identify each time you feel shy. If you want to, you can make the video only visible to you (it’s on the drop-down menu) the first time and work your way up to going live. Going through the motions should give you an opportunity to figure out when you feel so nervous about hitting record.

And this is a great way to get comfortable with yourself on camera!

While you’re busy being scared, your competitor is hitting that record button, publishing videos, and happily taking your clients and customers. I don’t know about you, but this thought is enough to make me do things differently.
