How many of you want to write a book? There are so many of us (myself included) that have the title of “Published Author” dancing around in our heads.
What are you waiting for? Is it finances, work, family, outside commitments, etc? You know, LIFE. Well don’t let this deter you from your pursuit of the Published Author title. Your book will not write itself, so commit to writing daily or weekly. Remember, a book draft is just that, a draft. You don’t have to write in a logical order if you’re just starting out, but you have to start writing something.
Daydream with me: You decide to commit 30 minutes a day to writing your book, just 30 minutes. Not planning, not editing, but actual writing. You stick to it for a week straight, and have some rough notes to show for it. Week two rolls around, and you miss 2 days, but you don’t get discouraged, you just keep the creative juices flowing and write freely. Look up now, it’s 4 weeks later, and you have a chapter or two actually drafted. You think, wow, this is awesome! You work on revising your draft while continuing to write fresh material. A month later, you have the workings of a real book. You continue revising your draft, characters are starting to take shape, plots begin to develop, and you can begin to write a series of rough notes as an outline for your book, which can ultimately develop into a table of contents, which you can then use in a book proposal to pitch to publishers. Whoa! Did you enjoy our daydream? I did!
So here’s my question to you:
Are you ever going to get that book draft started?
Or are you still stuck in the daydream?
